They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but I think at 61, I’m finally learning the best ones.
Over the last two and a half months, I’ve been quietly undergoing a bit of a renovation—not of my 740-square-foot home, but of my daily life. It’s amazing how quickly things can shift when you decide to trade old habits for a little more discipline.
Moving and Nourishing
I’ve officially gotten back into a consistent exercise routine, and honestly? It feels wonderful. It’s not just about the physical movement; it’s the mental clarity that comes with it. Pairing that with a real focus on my nutrition—being mindful of how I eat and what I eat—has made a world of difference. It’s a reminder that taking care of the “engine” makes the whole journey smoother.
The Freedom of “No-Buy”
One of the biggest shifts started back on December 1st when I committed to a no-buy year. We’re a few months in now, and the perspective shift has been eye-opening.
I realized I was spending so much time just… looking. Browsing, shopping, and thinking about the next thing to acquire. Stepping away from that cycle has cleared a path for much more joyful, meaningful experiences. I’ve found that my life is already full; I just needed to stop looking for additions and start enjoying what’s already here.
Finding My Discipline Again
Refocusing at this stage of life has been a healthy reality check. It taught me that I had let discipline slip in a few areas, and bringing that structure back hasn’t felt like a chore—it’s felt like a relief. I’m feeling better, thinking clearer, and genuinely enjoying the process of being more intentional.
Whether it’s writing here on the blog, spending time at the zoo, or just enjoying the quiet of my home, I’m finding that a little discipline goes a long way toward a lot of happiness.
I hope you’re all finding ways to refocus on what matters most to you today!
